Two FFC teams reach U.S. Club Soccer State Finals

After playing the clubs first season in the VPSL/ECNL Regional League, two of Fredericksburg FC's teams advanced to the U.S. Club Soccer Virginia State Cup finals. Both teams winning their semifinal games at FFC Park last Saturday (Feb. 12).

The 06 Girls Black (U16) won their second straight penalty kick tiebreaker, defeating Virginia Soccer Association VSA 06G ECNL RL to advance to the final against Great Falls Reston Soccer Club 06G Elite NPL, which will be played at FFC Park on Saturday, March 12. On Saturday, regulation ended 1-1 after Amber Ignudo headed home a pass from Carina Llamosa to tie the game in the second half. Neither team could score in extra time, before FFC came out on top 4-3 in the spot kicks. Skyla Ripley, Reyna Cusworth, Casey Serttas and Ignudo converted for FFC. Goalie Brianna Hollandsworth made her second save of the tiebreaker on VSA's fifth attempt to seal the win.

The 04 Girls Black (U19) earned advancement with a closely contested 1-0 victory over Virginia Soccer Association VSA 04/03G ECNL RL. Sara Frensley scored off an assist from Alexa Stohr just before the half and then the defensive effort did the rest. The strong defense helped goalies Bella Izadi and Javi Sanchez share the shutout. It was a strong result for the team, which is dealing with a few injuries and had just returned from playing three games in two days at the USYS National League PRO event in Tampa Bay, Fla., last Sunday and Monday. FFC will visit Great Falls Reston Soccer Club 04G Elite ECNL in March with the exact date still being ironed out.

A third, the 04 Boys Black (U19), fell 2-1 to Great Falls Reston Soccer Club GFP 03-04B Elite on Tuesday night (Feb. 15). TJ McDermott tallied the lone goal for FFC.
